Al-Fudhayl ibn Iyadh (May Allah have mercy on him) said to a man, “How many (years) have come upon you?” He replied, “Sixty years.” He said, “Therefore, for sixty years you have been going to your Lord and you are about to reach (Him).” So the man said, Read the rest of this entry »

15th Of Sha’ban: To Observe or not to Observe?
August 11, 2008
Q: What is your opinion on the 15th Night of Sha’ban, is it a virtuous night?
Read the rest of this entry »
May you live in interesting times
July 24, 2008
‘May you live in interesting times’ is thought to be an ancient Chinese proverb used for the purpose of cursing. As Muslims we are forbidden to curse people. The prophet Muhammad, even after the cruel inhumane persecution he and his followers encountered during Islam’s infancy, never resorted to cursing his enemies.
The folly of engagement: Scared Ed Hussain [QF]
July 22, 2008
I was invited as a guest, along with Ed Husain (Quilliam Foundation) on Islam Channel’s ‘Politics and Media’ show - or so I thought.
As it turned out, Ed was not happy to be on to a live show with me. His voice broke, his face screwed up with disdain, and the whites of his eyes were plain to see as he retorted, “I’m not going on if he is”.

July 20, 2008
Channel 4’s Shari’ah TV was once again on our screens; the fifth series was broadcast from New York. As usual the nature of these types of programmes is to a create some sort of controversy and debate, and many of the questions posed during the course of the discussions did generate just that.
An intelligent and skillful person transforms losses into profits; whereas the unwise and the unskilled aggravates his own predicament, making two disasters out of one.

”And do not backbite one another. Does one of you like that he eats the flesh of his dead brother”. A Chilling Video!!
July 13, 2008
O you who believe, no men should ever scoff at other men. May be, the latter are better than the former. Nor should women (ever scoff) at other women. May be, the latter women are better than the former ones. And do not find fault with one another, nor call one another with bad nicknames. Bad is the name of sinfulness after embracing Faith. If anyone does not repent, then such people are the wrongdoers. [49:11]
Who Speaks for European Muslims?
July 9, 2008
It seems to be very clear that there is no single ‘face’ to Islam in any European country, but a mosaic of ‘faces’. That makes government policy work in terms of engagement very difficult, says H. A. Hellyer.
The madness of King Abdullah
July 7, 2008
We all have, in one way or another, come across the dramatic story of King George III. A true story of the tragic deteriorating mental health of the 17th century British monarch. Officially considered ‘mad’ until recently, he was put in a straightjacket to restrain his frequent and violent attacks which continued to his demise. However, modern scientific analysis concludes that his abnormal behavior was due to an medical condition called ‘porphyria’ and not a mental illness. This to some modern researchers and psychiatrists explains King George’s ravings and epileptic fits.

The Continuity of Purposed Scholarship Methods In Najd
A few years back while reading through Shaikh Saleh Uthaymeen’s (r) Sharh of Shaikh Bakr Abo Zayd’s (r) Huliyat Talib al Ilm (A Work Based In The Pursuing Knowledge Genre) there were a number of issues that remained for me points of reflection. It is these matters of which I feel an intense desire to communicate and share with the reading audience.
